Who We Are

JOPDC was established as a nonprofit organisation in 2013 by 24 parents of Deaf children in Jinja, Uganda after being trained in Ugandan Sign Language (coordinated by Soft Power Education with financial support from Jinja DEAF UK). We were legally registered with the Jinja District Local Government in 2014.
Founded as a forum for caregivers in Jinja, JOPDC became a community where individuals could share challenges in raising, caring for, and supporting their Deaf children amidst the increasing stigma and discrimination in the country. Since its inception, JOPDC has evolved into a broad-based child rights organization, addressing the needs of children with all types of underserviced disabilities.

Our Vision

To see a world where the language, culture, and heritage of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing children will be acknowledged and respected in the pursuit of life, liberty, and equality. We aim to preserve and protect the rights of our children in Jinja, Uganda by working closely with caregivers, community members, and regional, national, and intergovernmental agencies.
